Find the best social media platform for YOUR business in 2021

What started as an app to share photography, Instagram has now turned into one of the most used social platforms. Once popular mostly by the youngsters, it is now a big hit among diverse age groups from tweens to retirees.

  • Instagram is the fastest growing platform

  • Very visual heavy platform

  • It currently has over 1 billion users

  • 25-34 year olds are the largest Instagram fans at over 25%

  • More women engage on the platform (57%)

  • The average user spends 50+ minutes a day on Instagram

Twitter

Twitter is a huge player in the social media game even though it doesn’t have the same amount of consistent users as Instagram and Facebook. It is a really good platform to connect your target market to your website and for keeping your customers updated on new products or to promote content on your website, landing pages or other media. 

The 411 about Twitter:

  • 145 million daily users

  • Over 1 billion accounts created

  • 44% of adults 18-24 are on Twitter

  • The largest age demographic is 30-48 year olds

Linkedin

Linkedin isn’t just great for finding a new job, but it is a really good source for promoting B2B marketing content. It is similar to Facebook in format, but has a more formal and serious vibe (where people mean business). This is a great platform for marketing to other businesses.

  • They come from over 200 different countries

  • While it caters to Gen Xers and up, Millenials make-up 1/4th of its users

Snapchat

The platform of choice for the younger generations (over Insta and TikTok), and 10 years after its introduction to the social stage, Snapchat is still a platform to be reckoned with. If you’re wondering what products and services are causing a stir among teens and up, Snapchat is a good place to find out.

The stats you need:

  • Over 265 million users

  • 75% of them are 13-34 

  • There is about a 60/40 split between female and male users

  • Users are 60% more likely to make impulse purchases on this platform

  • Users typically visit the platform daily and for over 20 minutes

Pinterest

While Pinterest started out as a social platform that was mostly used by Gen X and up, it is now very popular amongst Millenials and trickling down to Gen Z. It is the most product-based platform out there. While Pinterest started as more of a hobbyists platform for collection recipes, ideas, and fashion has quickly broadened its horizons to every topic imaginable. 

What you should know:

  • The platform is mostly used by women (I’m not sure why)!

  • There are a multitude of advertising opportunities if women are your target market

  • Average users spend 1-2 hours a week on the platform

  • You need to pin on average 3 times a day to maximize this platform

TikTok

If your target market is Gen Z’ers, then TikTok has earned a place in your social media campaign. With short snappy videos that have everyone talking, behaving, and making spending choices based on the content, it can’t be ignored. 

What you need to know:

  • The key: light, fun, short videos

  • There are over 500 million active users

  • Average user spends 50 minutes per day and 20+ hours a month

  • 60% are women, 40% are men
